The aims of the project:

• organization of additional medical help to orphaned children who live in orphanages and children care centers;
• cultivation of sanitary and hygienic habits of children, which is necessary for preventive health care.

Substantiation of the project, description of the current problems:

• The major problem to be solved in this project is a lack of individual approach to the children’s health problems, as well as a lack of organizational and financial resources which are necessary in difficult cases for curing a child. The system of medical examination is created for treating common cases. Special cases out of the system frames are excluded (at orphanages there is nobody to make particular diagnostics, to search for specialists and medicaments to cure children with health problems). Heart diseases, cleft palate, orthopedics are not operated in time, nobody orders glasses, hearing devices, brackets and etc. There is no effective health promotion program (hyppotherapy, for instance). As a result, children who had all chances for healthy life, become disable.

• At the same time there is another problem – children are not in the habit of taking care of their health (general and dental hygiene; for senior children – sex hygiene), moreover, they do not understand the consequences of bad habits (smoking, alcoholism, etc.).

The project is being framed by two programs:

• Program «Additional medical help»,
• Program «Preventive measures».

Program “Additional medical help” includes the following medical guidelines:

• Dental care (line “Dentists for children”);
• Ophthalmology (line “Ophthalmologists for children”);
• Help for hearing-impaired children (line “Let’s help children hear”);
• Help for children with heart diseases;
• Help for children who need maxillofacial correction;
• Orthopedics;
• Rehabilitation of disabled and debilitated children;
• Cosmetology.

Line «Dentists for children»

For the purpose of this program, volunteer dentists visit orphanages to examine children, conduct oral hygiene lessons and give children personal mouth care products.

Little children watch an educational cartoon and a funny costume-show, elder children see a laptop presentation "How to keep your teeth healthy" followed by a detailed examination of the content.

Each child demonstrates on a special toy, how to clean teeth correctly.

In the end of the lesson children draw theme pictures (volunteers provide hem with the needed supplies).

Line «Ophthalmologists for children»

Ophthalmologists visit orphanages for diagnostic purposes. They examine children, detect eye pathologies, give prescriptions and provide children with all necessary products for eyesight correction.

Line «Let's help children to hear!»

The program includes:

1. Early diagnostics of hearing disorder among refused babies in hospitals (before they are transferred to baby orphanages) and in baby orphanages. Disease detection and further support in the examination process. Assistance in equipment purchase (hearing aid, cochlear implants).

2. Diagnostics of acquired hearing disorders among schoolchildren and smaller children living in baby orphanages and orphanages.

3. Educational activities among children and teenagers, talks on such topics as hearing, causes of hearing disorder, daily care, impact of noise on health of hearing organs.

4. Work at specialized institutions for children with hearing/speech disorders, aimed at social adaptation of deaf children or children with restricted hearing capacity. Organization of festivals, excursions and trips for such children.

5. Assistance in finding families for children with hearing disorder. Placing information about such children on specialized web sites, among groups of people acquainted to this issue, who are not afraid of the problem, and who can become potential adoptive parents. Support to such families in collection of documents, education in schools for adoptive parents.

Program «Preventive measures»

In the frame of the program:

• Specialists invited by the project will make continuous dental and ophthalmological examinations.
• Children, who need help, get it from sponsoring means attracted.
• Medical specialists give interactive theme lessons aimed at informing children and forming habits of health maintenance.
